Fiber-optic sensing for demanding measurement environments

Nusenics develops fiber-optic sensing technologies for measurement environments where conventional electronic sensors face practical limits.

About Nusenics

Advanced sensor systems for hard-to-measure environments

Company focus

Nusenics is an independent deep-tech startup developing fiber-optic sensor systems for demanding environments where conventional electronic sensors can be limited by electromagnetic interference, high temperature, radiation, chemical exposure, constrained installation geometry, or difficult access.

Founded in 2021 by Dr. Ming Han, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan State University, Nusenics translates advanced fiber-optic sensing research into prototype systems and application-specific sensor solutions.

Technical approach

Nusenics leverages the advantages of optical fiber sensing, including electromagnetic immunity, remote interrogation, compact size, light weight, chemical inertness, and compatibility with harsh-environment deployment.

The company works with customers, collaborators, and technical partners to adapt sensing platforms for specific measurement requirements, packaging constraints, and system-integration needs.

Facilities & Technical Capabilities

Prototype development and laboratory evaluation

Nusenics operates from dedicated rented space at the VanCamp Incubator, with company-owned laboratory instrumentation and prototype development equipment. Nusenics also has access to shared incubator resources that support early-stage technology development.

Fiber-optic sensor assembly and packaging

Company-owned equipment supports fiber-optic sensing-head assembly, prototype packaging, and application-specific form-factor adaptation.

Optical interrogation and instrumentation

Optical readout and data-acquisition setups support laboratory evaluation of fiber-optic sensor response, signal quality, and prototype system behavior.

Environmental and application-specific testing

Nusenics develops laboratory test configurations for temperature, vacuum, dynamic, and other application-relevant measurement conditions.

Prototype system integration

Dedicated prototype development space supports assembly, integration, and preparation of fiber-optic sensing systems for evaluation by customers, collaborators, and technical partners.
